This course examines Russia and the Soviet Union (1914-1945).

ATHIM3 examines the characteristics of modern nations in the 20th century; the crises that confronted nations, their responses to these crises and the different paths nations have taken to fulfil their goals.

We examine the years of the Weimar Republic (1918-1933) and the years under the Nazi regime until 1941.

The central questions is: How did the most liberal and democratic country in the world degenerate into one of the most despotic and tyrannical regimes of the 20th Century?
